It is said by my old cousin that the 2 other bands on this Split-CD suckxxss: CONFESSION OF OBSCURITY: crust-grind & OUTCAST: hardcore metal (spit!) Let's review what he considered as the best band on this: IMMERSED IN BLOOD, that name reminds me of Scattered Remnants, the guy always ended his letter by Immersed In Blood, -signature-. Okay, this is Death Metal and a fast, brutal kind the american vein of Suffocation, while there are some good riffs, the sound is a little bit saturated but this pleased me anyway, it's raw and brutal, quite technical and not for trendy ears with some Deicide influences, interesting band, they got two ex-INVERTED members in the line-up. All in all it's more or less in the vein of SEVERE TORTURE.

HAMMER OF GONES FESTIVAL METAL N°2 CD 2002. Mostly a Black Metal event that happened Saturday Nov. 10th 2001 C.C.O. VILLEURBANNE but all songs are taken from the band's releases, no Live tracks! So this is only a compilation made off the bill. Among the 17 bands I notify interesting names such as SACRIFICIUM SACRALIS performing a Dark & morbid kind of brutal Dark/Death/Black Metal unrelenting like some extreme Aussie Death/Black Metal legends! "Design Of His Heavenward's Majesty" sounds extremely great & mighty, definitely a great, long song that left me hungry for more! NEHËMA appeared also fuckin' unrelenting & brutal funeral Chaos Black Metal, no tunes of joy in this "Light Of The Dead Star", morbidity & darknened atmospheres prevails! That's all I can say about this, I'm glad not having paid for this!

DESCEND/ALLTHAT IS EVIL (USA/USA) Split CD 2000 CUTTING EDGE. 4 tracks for each band, DESCEND is the first in line and arrived with an intro then followed by excellent interesting Death Metal music that is very original & varied, rich & packed with great feelings, leads & true Metal arrangements, a kind of War-Metal that reminds me a lot ARGHOSLENT and their songs are all different but all have that Epic feeling and also an old Heavy Metal influence as well, note that the music is more present than the vocals and that's really fucking well done. The band has made some good Demos in the past so you can hear that they reached a highly mature professional level. All those who consider themselves as real Battle-Death Metal fans must be sure to enjoy it, BUY OR DIE!! DETRIMENTUM play a sort of Brutal Death façon U.S., very pounding stuff, brutal & heavy with guttural & shrieky vocals, great sound that reminds me of "Chronic Corpora Infest" of DISGORGE Mex. Fast & brutal with leads, this band is sure to make some fans joining their morbid camp as these two tracks will feature on their "Triform Tenebrion" MCD 2002, ...on which label? I don't know!! As for INFECTED DISARRAY, they're more in the DISGORGE U.S./DEVOURMENT's wave of Death/Grind, maybe faster & with the approximate same sound, who cares about originality when it possesses the same talent & quality? The three gory tracks are just a foretaste to their "Disseminating Obscenity" CD 2002. Label...? Unknown for the moment but BUY OR DIE when both will be out!
DISCO'S OUT, SLAUGHTER'S IN Comp CD 99 NOVUM VOX MORTIS. An all polish bands compilation or should I say a "4 way Split-CD"? The disc starts with 4 extreme Death Metal songs from LOST SOUL which is an excellent band indeed! The velocity of old IMMOLATION and the doomingness of MORBID ANGEL with some really fast melodic tunes and leads that rip and shred anything on its way! Excellent mix of American and European influences makes this skilful mixture fucking original & Brutal! Has many VADER & LUCIFERION similar thrashing tunes as well as some technical SINISTER-alike riffing & brief symphonic arrangements a la old NOCTURNUS. DISGORGED/WITHERED EARTH Split CD MASTERCULT. Dave Culross was blasting in DISGORGED which was an extremely heavy Brutal Death Metal band with a completely monstrous sound from Hell! They only released "Thy Hideous Wake" MCD 93 and a Promo Tape 94 before split up and three members then formed WITHERED EARTH and "Abolish In Thorns" Demo 95 was born! This fuming disc contains these 3 releases, enjoy!

Antimo from the DISGORGE band always promised to send it but it unfortunately never arrived in my mailbox and I missed them on stage due to their show in Rennes being canceled last minute! Great morbid intro anyway, DOMAIN starts the War with their Extreme unrelenting Death Metal Armageddon in the vein of IMMOLATION & ANGELCORPSE with still the grinding DISGORGE sound (of course, a member of DISGORGE Mex. is playing in this band too in case you don't know!), the result is amazing, fuckin' Evil & heavy, Brutal as Hell & raw as fuck! DESCEND/ALLTHAT IS EVIL (USA/USA) Split CD 2000 CUTTING EDGE. 4 tracks for each band, DESCEND is the first in line and arrived with an intro then followed by excellent interesting Death Metal music that is very original & varied, rich & packed with great feelings, leads & true Metal arrangements, a kind of War-Metal that reminds me a lot ARGHOSLENT and their songs are all different but all have that Epic feeling and also an old Heavy Metal influence as well, note that the music is more present than the vocals and that's really fucking well done. The band has made some good Demos in the past so you can hear that they reached a highly mature professional level. DETRIMENTUM/INFECTED DISARRAY (UK/UK) Split Promo CD-R 2000. DETRIMENTUM play a sort of Brutal Death façon U.S., very pounding stuff, brutal & heavy with guttural & shrieky vocals, great sound that reminds me of "Chronic Corpora Infest" of DISGORGE Mex. Fast & brutal with leads, this band is sure to make some fans joining their morbid camp as these two tracks will feature on their "Triform Tenebrion" MCD 2002, ...on which label? I don't know!! As for INFECTED DISARRAY, they're more in the DISGORGE U.S./DEVOURMENT's wave of Death/Grind, maybe faster & with the approximate same sound, who cares about originality when it possesses the same talent & quality? The three gory tracks are just a foretaste to their "Disseminating Obscenity" CD 2002. Label...? Unknown for the moment but BUY OR DIE when both will be out!
DISCO'S OUT, SLAUGHTER'S IN Comp CD 99 NOVUM VOX MORTIS. An all polish bands compilation or should I say a "4 way Split-CD"? The disc starts with 4 extreme Death Metal songs from LOST SOUL which is an excellent band indeed! The velocity of old IMMOLATION and the doomingness of MORBID ANGEL with some really fast melodic tunes and leads that rip and shred anything on its way! Excellent mix of American and European influences makes this skilful mixture fucking original & Brutal! Has many VADER & LUCIFERION similar thrashing tunes as well as some technical SINISTER-alike riffing & brief symphonic arrangements a la old NOCTURNUS. CANNIBAL CORPSE/MALEVOLENT CREATION/MONSTROSITY Split Demos CD MASTERCULT. Cool to hear again the old sounds of Demos such as "A Skull Full Of Maggots" by CANNIBAL CORPSE, it was when they had a Thrash sound! Following to this are the two godly Demos of MALEVOLENT CREATION '89 & '90 that already had a damn great sound thrashing speed Death/Thrash like their 3 first albums, these fuckin' rules forever!!! The "Horror Infinity" 1990 Demo of MONSTROSITY was also such a raw jewelry of skilful brutality!
CHRIST DENIED/BASTARD SAINTS (SPA/ITA) Split CD 2000 MACABRE MEMENTOS. Another brutal Split CD, this lasts longer than the one with Aborted, being made of 5 tracks for CHRIST DENIED and 6 others for BASTARD SAINTS. I won't comment about CHRIST DENIED again & their abusive deep-ass porky "buï-buï-buï" vocals, just read the other review, it doesn't changes! The music just comes out to be even better and the cover of GOREAPHOBIA's "Demented Omen Of Masochism" is very well done & easily recognizable. BUY OR DIE! As for BASTARD SAINTS, it's very different and more original, they sometimes recall me the HUMAN REMAINS style, twisted, fast, technical with raging screaming vocals & good death grunts. The music is totally unpredictable and has almost no common structures, I think the band has to develop their tightness again to become more famous as they aren't far to be absolutely perfect! That band has found a style of its own in the HUMAN REMAINS & MASS PSYCHOSIS veins, very twisted materials where concentration is required for both musicians & listener, to finally see what their point is, several hard listening & full attention are needed, I love that! Extreme skilful Metal Music that makes your brain works, this is not stuff made up in a few week-ends for sure! Excellent job, BUY OR DIE! That comp is only for those who like brutal stuffs like Grind/Noise & Brutal death but it is mostly Grind/Noise and I already got the opportunity to hear the majority of the 26 bands in it before. Except for BLOSIUS (see review in MCD section), I didn't pick up any other new interesting band, so if you're interested: BLEURK Prods: 19 AVE. WINSTON CHURCHILL, 93190 LIVRY GARGAN FRANCE.
CORPSEFUCKING ART/GORETRADE (ITA/COL) "Zombiecronomicon" Split CD 2001 CGLTD. Damn, CORPSEFUCKING ART got a new sound now, nearly MORTICIAN resounding and coming back with better materials than ever before, it's smelling the Death completely, very grinding & heavy with a lot of intros from movies that I already have heard (or similar) anywhere else. I definitely change opinion about this band, they're now pretty good at what they do which wasn't the case before as they now reached a level of extremity, it's time to support them in buying this Split CD. Note that they do a cover of MORTICIAN's "Bloodcraving" which is real different sounding to the original version made by the Goremasters. GORETRADE were totally unknown to me, plus coming from Colombia which is a rare place for Extreme Metal music, I thought it would be interesting to listen to them but it seems that they're a total clone of their countrymate of INTERNAL SUFFERING, same Dying Fetus, Disgorge, Devourment influenced band. Ok, it's very well played & recorded but who need again a band without any real own identity, the freaks certainly!? As for myself, a bit of creativity is required here as reaching something more Extreme is one of my undying brutal goals.

CRYPTIC starts the Split with their raw guttural Thrash/Grind, very simple, amateurish repetitive stuff in the MORTICIAN vein with many mistakes, it's fuckin' poor & bored me to death... (minable!) Real boring "band"! PROPHECY as everyone knows, keeps performing their DYING FETUS-more-Death-Metal style and evolving to something more extreme now getting faster with time and more weird moods puts within, 2 of the tracks already featured on their first CD "Foretold Foreseen" only "Driven By Fear" seems to be an older Demo track? I don't think this release should please any Death Metal fans, this is pointless!

Now re-released on CD for eternal listening! I didn't care that much about BEHERIT because their noisy Black was pretty funny & kidding, trying to get that cult BLASPHEMY's vibe but sounded crappy to my ears and really childish, fuckin' weak. "Messe Des Morts" wasn't very impressive to me but some people still consider them as an influencial "band" anyway... Well, to keep the review short, I was a huge fan of ARCHGOAT and their incredibly brutal & obscure approach was something I've always been looking for from true unholy underground bands! Backward intro... Fast, blasting & pounding the flesh of the holy spirit with short dark keyboards passages, bells of Hellchurch apparitions, truly Evil tunes & revengeful growling vocals, leads from beyond, had primitive & beastial raw sound making it all as inhuman sounding as possible! ARCHGOAT did their own way what other bands such as old INCANTATION, IMPRECATION, old AMORPHIS & BLASPHEMY did at the same time but they did not have the same chance to get more known as they deserved to be in my opinion. BLACK WITCHERY are very similar to a certain album called "Vengeance War 'Till Death"... It's fucking furious, apochaolyptic & pure Evil, no fun riffs and nothing for weak ears, unrelenting raw energy surrounded by total darkness & hate, this is what I feel while listening to these fiends! It's brutal and bringing insanes pounding atmosfears from Hell and beyond...! Of course, it's very linear and basic but maintains high a malignant & obscure presence during five fast as Hell unholy tracks on their part of the CD including a cover of BLASPHEMY "Demoniac", quite cult! BOWEL (USA) "Rotten Fecal Duct" Split CD 94 (Split with THE GUNS : shitty punkrust!!!) LSR. The sound is extremely raw like Cianide, the music is sometimes doomy and also got some hardcore accelerations. The mood is pure underground Metal here, just a pity the vocals ruined it... This isn't something spectacular as it has already been done a long time ago but has its own charm though! You must be a real freak if you wanna hear it.

NEPHASTH was completely unknown to me with "The Merciless Face Of Evil" Demo 99 but they deserve to be known now as they are as great as ABHORRENCE or REBAELLIUN, very memorable structures are engulfed in their songs of Death, strong, catchy to the bones, old-school vibes here & there, KRISIUN seem to have breed many band followers for our ultimate pleasure as those aren't clones but very professional bringing qualities into what they do, it's sure very similar to REBAELLIUN but I won't complain about it, it's fucking good to hear true Extreme Death Metal feelings when the trend is now about doing the goregrindnoise thing, it makes me revive again with unstoppable energy of pure hatred, fuck trends & craps: BUY OR DIE!!!

ABORTED/CHRIST DENIED (BEL/SPA) Split CD 2000 SOULREAPER. Excellent initiative from this Belgian label! ABORTED now got faster, better and more extreme here than on their fishy first CD, very reminder of early SUFFOCATION now with an awesome production that crushes and grinds the bones of all freaks with a professional brutal quality, these 3 tracks are truly heavy, obscure and just kill the weak! ALIENATION MENTAL/MALIGNANT TUMOUR (CZECH/CZECH) Split CD 99 KHAARANUS. ALIENATION MENTAL are now fuckin awesome & monstrous Brutal Grind, technical & Punishing!!! They now sound like a compromise between AGONY CONSCIENCE (for the industrial intros, riffings & vocals), old BRUTAL TRUTH (for the unrelenting heaviness & some raging screamings) & DAMNABLE (also for the vocals, the sound & some good leads). Excellent original drumming, they aren't linear and always come in with unpredictables twists & turns, I fuckin love that kind of thoughtful skilled Grind, it's not only Brutal, it is more!! Wow!! It also goes beyond speed limits and offers great moments of extremities that is rare to find in this style today! Covers of Fear Factory's "Big God/Raped Souls" & CARCASS' "Corporeal Jigsore Quandary" ends with class their part of the Split. This is undoubtedly deserving of a BUY OR DIE!! MALIGNANT TUMOUR on the other hand were very disappointing... They're too fuckin basic and give nothing new to an old impetigocarcassmorticianapalmdeath linear & repetitive tribal style that has been used & abused by so many clones, punk riffings with mid-tempo should be left for those who start learning their instruments in my opinion and the bullshit politically involved lyrics doesn't match with me. ANCESTRAL MALEDICTION makes me think of another band but I can't point exactly who! Certainly MOLESTED (RIP) and Polish masters DAMNATION, they sound a little similar to their old stuff. Their raw sound is quite great and the catchy tunes are made to make me not forget about them for a while! Raging, dark & malignant Death Metal with great feelings and Evil atmospheres from Hell! Some interesting technical tunes here that recall the old days of SINISTER, so no needs to tell that this is another excellent catchy Split Death Metal CD with true extreme tunes performed at the speed of light! BUY OR DIE!!! c/o FABIO SPERANDIO, AV FORTUNATO MOREIRA 314, PINDAMONHANGABA - SP - 12400-000 BRASIL. The only thing that leaves me hungry is that it only has 4 tracks (two per band) for 15mn... Quite short but so good & cult, they could have released this as a 7" or adding some bonus would have been greatly appreciated like they did respectively on their Demo tapes... anyway, don't miss it! ANIMA DAMNATA/THRONEUM (POL/POL) "Gods Of Abhorrence" Split CD 2002. ANIMA DAMNATA starts this unholy Split CD with total Death Metal malevolence, offering real brutality and chaos, war, deathstruction... Good apparition from the dark side! Sometimes being very predictables and too americanized but ok band anyway! As for THRONEUM, they start their side with a BEHERIT cover "The Gate Of Nanna" (also covered by Manticore, see CD reviews) which is something I encourage because too many bands are just doing covers of well-known bands these days, why not a cover of Asphyx or Immolation instead of Slayer for example? THRONEUM fuckin' rules because of their personal style ranging in the likes of SADISTIK EXEKUTION, MISERY & MARTIRE, original & Extreme Metal at the same time, that's truly more brutal than the trendy moshing american style for sure! I will encourage anyone to buy it for THRONEUM, they truly deserve to be more known now: BUY OR DIE!!! (Note that THRONEUM also performed a cover of DEICIDE's "Lunatic Of God's Creation" completely Extreme version!!)
ATHEIST/RAVAGE Split Demos CD MASTERCULT. Fuck damn it!! I always consider that the old Demos are the best Death Metal ever experienced in life, fuck trendy clean sound & triggered drums, this was so evil especially RAVAGE, pre-ATHEIST band, the CD includes "On We Slay" Demo 87, "Kill Or Be Killed" Demo 86 their two demos under that name and "Beyond" Demo 88, "Hell Hath No Fury" Demo 87 under the ATHEIST monicker… They ruled before experimenting too much non-metal elements. Most important is that the Demos survived and here's a second chance to put an ear onto them, Cult! Fans of old but kult Extreme fast stuffs like NUCLEAR DEATH, early MORBID ANGEL & BESTIAL WARLUST might be surprised to hear from where ATHEIST raised from… Pure Hell!!!!!! Nothing in common with their two last experimental albums! This has to be heard believe me, they evolved inverted according to my own taste, starting Extreme & dying soft… while I worship the opposite!

XENTRIX (UK) "Shattered existence" LP 89 ROADRUNNER. Another good Thrash Metal band was XENTRIX, fast & original with weird moods here and there, totally in the style of that great epoch with heinous vocals and a great production making this a classic of the genre! No needs to introduce this band to the old fans, they were so fuckin' catchy…!
